Petersburg is situated in the Heart of the Inside Passage of Southeast Alaska. The Tongass National Forest is
our backyard, the eagles and whales our neighbors! Petersburg is located on
Mitkof Island and is accessible only by boat or air.

Your visit to Petersburg can be a land, sea or air adventure. To start, you might wish to learn about our
Alaskan, Tlingit and Norwegian culture at the Clausen Memorial Museum.
The US Forest service offers guided tours throughout the summer.
Be sure to stop at the Petersburg Visitors Bureau for local information.

Take a walk on a boardwalk and see the beauty of the Tongass National Forest up close and personal. There
are abundant opportunities to go bird-watching, or berry picking. Petersburg is home to many talented artists,
you can view their splendid work in several galleries. If you would like to explore our downtown, the bookstore
is well stocked and specializes in local interest books. There are several gift shops for that special souvenir of
your stay, don’t forget to pick up some wonderful canned smoked salmon. You will often be able to purchase
fresh caught Salmon from Coastal Cold Storage or the F/V Lofoten.  Dennis Sperl offers World Famous
Petersburg Shrimp as well.  If you are interested in some fresh crab try Coastal Cold Storage.   Tonka
Seafoods offers a wonderful selection of canned smoked salmon and a rare treat:  Smoked Black Cod!   Return
to your Nest at the end of your day to relax and plan for your ocean adventure.

Want to smell the salt air? Take a charter from any of the experienced charter owners based in Petersburg.
Go fishing for salmon or halibut, or both! Or, take a guided kayak tour of the narrows and Petersburg Creek.
Since this is the inside passage, our waters are protected and are often so calm you may think you're on a lake.
At the end of the day, return to your Nest, sit on the deck and watch the sun set, around 10:30 p.m. and think
about a flight seeing trip you'll never forget.

For a view only birds and rare visitors enjoy, consider a flight seeing tour. Several experienced flight seeing
pilots operate in Petersburg. View the glaciers from above, find hidden lakes accessible only by plane, take in
the wonder of beautiful Southeast Alaska. Return to your Nest and share your experiences with your hosts. No
matter how you decide to explore our little town and beyond,
we are certain you will never forget your visit to Petersburg.

At the end of your day, whether it was a hike down the road, a kayak adventure or a flight seeing trip, and
your body and soul have been rejuvenated come back to the Feathered Nest. We invite you to sit out on
our deck and watch the birds or the rain or the sun set (somewhere around 10:30 during the month of
June). Have a cup of tea, put your feet up and plan your adventures for tomorrow.
We will do our best to make your stay memorable!
